Life's Search

Everyone goes through life searching for something.
Sometimes, people think they've found what they're searching for,
then one day they wake up and say, "Shit, I had it all wrong."
And they've wasted their whole life
never having found what they were looking for.

Then, there are those people who actually find what they're searching for,
but never realize it. They search throughout their whole lives for it,
and one day, they wake up and say, "Shit, I had it all wrong."
They'd found what they were looking for years earlier and simply hadn't
recognized it or been willing to accept it, and left it, sadly, behind.

Both lives are tragic. But there is a worse tragedy.

Sometimes, a person finds what they're searching for,
and knows in their heart that they've found it.
But that it's unattainable. And it's the worst kind of defeat.
It brings on the kind of sadness that is felt
when an empire crumbles to the ground, or when a hero dies.
It's a defeat that can destroy a person's soul,
and tear the very heart from their body.
It's the kind of pain that no person can endure or ever recover from.

And once, in a great many years,
a person finds what they are searching for,
and latches on to it, embraces it, and never lets it go.
And no matter how simple it is, this person will be happier
than any other person. A person like this can be a hero.
He can be a ruler, a lover. He is content with his life,
and gives great joy to the people around him,
and though he may die, he will be remembered forever.
