Security Theater (Friday, October 17, 2008)

Previously, I've written about airline security, and how it is mostly a show put on by the government to make citizens feel better, rather than an effective threat deterrent. Mostly, it's just a pain in the backside for travelers. Columnist Jeffry Goldberg has written an entertaining (or frightening?) story about The Things He Carried through security around the United States. For me, this isn't an argument for tighter security, but rather for less theater, and an investment elsewhere.
